Ayawaso West Municipal Successfully Hosts 2026 Inter-Schools Athletics Competition

On Wednesday, 12th February 2026, the Ayawaso West Municipal Education and Sports Directorate successfully organized the 2026 Ayawaso West Inter-Schools Athletics Competition at the Sports Stadium of the University of Ghana, Legon.
The event brought together talented athletes from both Primary and Junior High Schools (JHS) across the municipality in a vibrant and highly competitive atmosphere.

The competition served as a platform to promote discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical fitness among young learners, while also identifying promising talents for higher-level competitions.
This year’s competition was strategically organized to select athletes who will represent Ayawaso West Municipal at the upcoming 2026 Inter-Districts Sports Festival. As the reigning two-time overall champions in 2024 and 2025, the municipality remains determined to maintain its legacy of excellence through structured preparation, commitment, and effective talent development.
Participants had the privilege of competing on standard athletics facilities with proper equipment under professional supervision. The exposure to quality facilities provided invaluable experience and boosted the confidence of the young athletes. Security arrangements were excellent, ensuring a safe, orderly, and incident-free programme throughout the event.

The competition was graced by Mr. James Odoi Wilson, Greater Accra Regional Technical Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), who provided technical oversight and encouragement to athletes and coaches. Also in attendance was Mrs. Judith Amoateng Ennin, Municipal Education Director, whose leadership continues to strengthen collaboration between education and sports within the municipality. Officials from the Ghana Athletics Association supervised the technical conduct of the events and offered professional guidance to coaches and participants.

The Directorate expresses sincere appreciation to all Headteachers, Headmasters, and Headmistresses for their cooperation and effective management of students, which contributed to the smooth and successful execution of the competition. Special gratitude is extended to the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, particularly Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, for facilitating access to the stadium and supporting the programme.
The 2026 Ayawaso West Inter-Schools Athletics Competition stands as a testament to the municipality’s strong commitment to grassroots sports development. Ayawaso West remains focused and united in nurturing young talents and sustaining its proud record of excellence as preparations intensify for the 2026 Inter-Districts Sports Festival.
